A note from Hexham Spaces

We are always trying our hardest to gain temporary access to empty shop windows in Hexham. Naturally, it is not always possible, but we would like to take this opportunity to thank all Agents and Landlords for your help with past projects.

When we enable charities and local organisations to have a presence in the town centre, the windows always look attractive and footfall is increased. Please continue to help us to improve the face and vitality of Hexham.
Patricia Graham, Hexham Spaces

Although the Covid19 pandemic lockdown restrictions have created so much uncertainty and worry for business owners, landlords and shoppers, Hexham has continued to be resilient in coping with the impact.
There continues to be mainly positive movement in our historic, central shopping area of the town, with some investment by new businesses, refurbishment & improvements by the existing businesses that give our town so much of its lovely, varied shopping character, but sadly also one or two losses.

Hexham Spaces, despite the Covid19 restrictions potentially making access arrangements more difficult, continues to keep an eye on empty premises, and we welcome any suggestions or offers of empty shopfronts in the central shopping area to be used as temporary display windows.
And remember, shopping local with the small businesses of Hexham, keeps our beautiful town vibrant and interesting. It also helps keep empty shops to a minimum, and we at Hexham Spaces want to help keep it that way!

Thank you so much to all participating shop owners and their Agents, who have let us make use of their empty shops and property over the past years. Through their generosity and help, the streetscape of Hexham’s shopping area has been kept looking vibrant and local charities have benefited from good public exposure in central Hexham.
Thank you also to all volunteers and local charities that have often responded at short notice to provide colourful, informative and interesting window displays. Hexham has looked all the better for your hard work!

We look forward to another busy year ahead, and lots of amazing new window displays. Please keep the ideas coming and we look forward to working successfully with empty shop owners and their Agents.

About us

Hexham Spaces is a new, energetic, community-centred project which is invigorating the town centre through creative use of empty shops and other spaces in Hexham, Northumberland.

Run entirely by volunteers who are residents of, and care deeply about Hexham, we are gaining access to a range of spaces in the town to raise the profile of community groups through giving them access to shop windows to display information about their group or to show exhibitions of traditional and contemporary artwork.  This in turn will generate increased footfall and movement around the town so the retailers benefit, too, while making Hexham a richer and even more interesting place to live in or visit.

We welcome any comments, as well as ideas for future displays.  If you wish to contact us, please click on
the 'Contact' tab or on the email icon shown in the top right hand corner of each page.
